Dark Forest

The forest at night is a realm swallowed by darkness. It breaths with an ancient, uneasy life older than memory. Gnarled trees loom overhead. Ancient sentinels, their twisted branches lean together like conspirators clawing at the sky. A thin veil of fog snakes along the leaf strewn floor, slithering between moss covered roots. An overwhelming sense of dread clings to the air, thick as the mist, warning of creatures ancient and malevolent lurking just beyond sight, waiting in the gloom. A faint musty scent hints of Siren Marsh to the north, where things of beauty and terror inhabit shallow depths. Hidden deep within the twisted alder and ash lie ritual sites, meeting places of ancient sects who worship the spirit beneath the fields. The forest breathes, whispers, and waits. Outsiders survive by knowing which doors not to open, what names never to speak aloud, and when to leave before the circle closes.
