Boolik E (Mayan Board Game - Boo ik - Bul - Puluc)
Mayan War Boardgame ( Boolik & Puluc )
The board game called Boolik is also known by the names of Boo ik / Boolk / Bu'ul / Buul / Bul / Pulúc / Maize Road / Maize Highway / (The etymology of the word Bu'ul in Maya-Yucateco corresponds to "Bean" or also "Given" another of the Mayan languages).
The Boolik is a Mesoamerican "Board Game", which had its origin in the Mayan culture, there are several versions of how it could have been created, some researchers believe it is a variant of the game called Patolli de Teotihuacán and others that could have been a distinctly Maya game.
Being a War Board Game, their movements represent situations lived in a battle (War of Guerrilas). The capture of the pieces is an analogy to the capture of the enemy warriors, the own base and opponent represent the Mayan States Cities, the use of chance in the movements of the displacements of the pieces represent the different situations and contingencies with which they were in the large expanses of forest and land that separated each State City.
When doing the research on the game called Boolik, it was possible to identify 3 different variants at the time of playing it, this app being the digitization of Variant 3 and Variant 1 of Boolik, which consist of the following characteristics:
Variant 3:
The player captures chips from the opponent as indicated by the dice or the corn; if a player falls on the opponent's chips, in later moves they will advance towards the home base changing direction, if it manages to reach the base itself, the opponent's chips will be discarded along with the own chips that had been captured by the opponent; own chips never enter the enemy base, but when they reach the penultimate row before reaching the opposing base they will change direction and return to their base.
Variant 1:
The player captures pieces of the opponent as indicated by the dice or the corn; if a player falls on the opponent's pieces, in later moves he will continue advancing towards the opponent's base, if he arrives at the enemy base, the own pieces that had been captured by the opponent with that piece will return to the initial position, to be part again of the game and the opponent's pieces will be discarded.
